Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been officially pronounced as the new WTO Director-General.
The international trade authority, on Monday, made the pronouncement via its Twitter page, celebrating the giant stride as Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala becomes the first female to lead the organisation.
The tweet reads: “BREAKING: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria is appointed as the next WTO Director-General.
“Dr. Okonjo-Iweala makes history as the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO. Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021,” the body added.
Recall that Quillcastle Nigeria earlier reported that the global economist secured the support of the U.S. on Friday, February 5, 2021.
Before the appointment, Ngozi Iweala sits on the Boards of Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), and the African Risk Capacity (ARC).
