The announcement comes on Tuesday as the government confirmed increasing enrolment systems to 5,410.
In a joint statement by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the government said the decision to extend the deadline was made after a request by stakeholders on the need to consolidate the enrolment and NIN-SIM verification process.
The new date was announced a day before the initial deadline pegged at June 30.
According to the statement, the Federal Government has also approved the extension as part of its effort to make it easier for its citizens and residents to obtain the NIN.
The extension makes it the fifth deadline extension since the NIN-SIM linkage exercise was announced in December 2020.
So far, the commission has been able to record a total of 57.3 million unique NIN enrolments
