Highly ranked Nigerian scientist, Professor Abass Olajire, is dead

Nigerian leading scientist and professor of industrial/environmental chemistry, Prof. Abass Olajire, is dead.

Professor Abass Olajire, who is a popular lecturer at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, died on Friday afternoon, in Ogbomoso.

The scientist reportedly slumped while observing Jummah, the Muslim’s Friday noon prayer, at Ansarudeen Mosque and was confirmed dead at the Lautech Teaching Hospital, LTH, moments later.

The scientist’s death comes six months after being ranked amongst top scientists in Nigeria.

In March 2021, Scopus, the largest database of peer-reviewed scholarly documents, celebrated Professor Abass Abiola Olajire among the 71 Nigerian scholars.

According to the publication, the late scientist and widely cited researcher was ranked 3rd in Nigeria, and 128th of 66,925 world scholars in Environmental Sciences.

The 59 year old seasoned scientist and author taught for over 30 years, starting his career as a foundation academic staff of LAUTECH in 1990.
